The best way to bring competency-based and meaningful learning into the elementary math classroom is to create a problem-solving environment. What traits define a good math problem? How can we foster rich class discussions? What manipulatives should we use? How can we manage differentiated instruction within the same problem? In this workshop, we discuss 10 practices to foster a problem-solving classroom environment that develops meaningful math understanding and explore them through different examples of rich math activities.
